Katherine Ma
Educator
Katherine is the Director of Your Exercise Prescription. She received both her Exercise Physiology and Sport Science degree from the University of New England. Katherine was first introduced to Pilates in 1999 where she attended her first Pilates class at the Polestar studio and fell in love with the movement modality. Shortly after Katherine completed her Pilates training with Polestar Pilates which included completing the Diploma of Professional Pilates. She has been on the teaching training faculty as an Educator since 2007.
Katherine finds that Pilates is a great marriage between the discipline, control and creativity of ballet and the solid foundation of science, and believes that the principles of Pilates can easily be transferred to everyday activities.
Katherine suffered a major health challenge when in 2007 she was completely paralyzed as a result of contracting Guillian Barre. During her 12-month rehabilitation, she drew upon Pilates principles to enhance and facilitate her recovery. This experience provides Katherine with a unique perspective on disability and rehabilitation and further ignited her passion in functional movement.
Katherine lives on the Gold Coast with her husband and two children. She loves watching her clients not only use Pilates to complement their sports, health and rehabilitation regimes, but also to support prevention of injuries and improve overall body performance. She has a particular focus in helping older Australians change the way they age.
